Chris + Angel are such a fun and attractive couple! They looked amazing for their pictures and totally rocked it! We started C+A’s engagement session around the Lighthouse at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. It was such a beautiful day with blue skies and plenty of clouds! After a few gorgeous pictures overlooking the harbor, we then headed downtown and met up in front of the Civic Center. Chris and Angel live downtown and love that modern feel of the city! We have said in the past that Oklahoma City is truly becoming a modern city and we just love the clean lines of the city! As we were concluding our evening with C+A, we made our way closer to the heart of the city with all the breathtaking buildings for a few more romantic portraits.
We love hearing the story of how our couples met and their proposal! C+A's story is really sweet! Here is their story told by Chris…
"Tien(Angel) and I officially met each other last April in Davenport, Iowa, the same day that my beloved grandmother passed away at the age of 90. I was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in 1992 with my parents and a younger sister. My grandmother was an instrumental part of my childhood prior to America. She lived with our family from the time I was born until the day we left for America. I was the typical rambunctious boy that would always managed to find myself being caught by my grandma for all of my mischievous activities (e.g., stealing money from my mom’s purse to buy firecrackers). Despite having many grandchildren, she made it felt like I was always near and dear to her heart.
Our family visited her a few times over the course of over 20 years since leaving Vietnam, and each time my grandma would make it her mission to remind me that I have yet to be married and insisted that I should introduce her to my wife in the future. Saying goodbye to her after each visit was exponentially more difficult secondary to the thought that it could be our last goodbye ever.
My parents hosted a Vigil on the day that my grandma passed away. I was in graduate school at the time but fortunately lived less than an hour away so I came home that evening. Tien and I have some mutual friends and she accompanied them to the Vigil that evening. We came to realize that we both attended the same church in the community and our relationship soon developed afterwards. Some time later my sister pointed out to me something that was both coincidental and meaningful. Specifically, on the same day that our grandmother passed away she had sent me an angel to keep me company for the rest of my life. The literally English translation of name Tien into English is “Angel.”
I completed graduate school that summer and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a one-year internship position. Our relationship continued to develop despite the distance, and we naturally decided that we would be together for the rest of our lives. We became engaged and Tien moved to Ann Arbor that winter. We recently moved to Oklahoma City. I am currently a neuropsychology postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and she is a student at Oklahoma City Community College. Our most favorite activity lately has been the planning of our upcoming wedding!"
